Ukraine has the right to defend itself by launching attacks on military bases and weapons depots in Russia, says an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Michailo Podoljak claims on Twitter that the international community recognizes that right, referring to the statement by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Ukraine must decide for itself whether to attack military targets.
The Russian government accuses the West of openly encouraging Ukraine to target targets in Russia. However, a foreign ministry spokesman in Moscow reiterated that Western countries should seriously consider the threat that Russia’s attacks lead to counteraction.
The Kremlin added that Western arms supplies to Ukraine threaten European security. Especially the “pumping” of heavy weapons to Ukraine threatens security in Europe and creates instability, said spokesman Dmitri Peskov.
Russia has reported a series of explosions in the south of the country recently, including at an ammunition depot. Podoljak previously suggested that Ukraine is behind this but did not acknowledge it.
