The coronavirus is still on the rise in the United States. The highest number of infections in a day was recorded in the past 24 hours.
In some states, the virus appears to have been pushed back, but infection rates are skyrocketing in Texas, California, Arizona and Florida. Donald Trump’s advisor, Anthony Fauci, already warned of a disaster scenario.
In the past 24 hours, 37,077 new infections with the coronavirus have been reported in the US. That is the highest number since the virus outbreak began.
The previous record number, 36,285 cases, dates from April when the outbreak was mainly affected on the east coast.
While previously New York was mainly a significant source of infection, the coronavirus now spreads primarily in the west and south of the US.
One of the hardest-hit states is Texas. There, the governor postponed a previously announced relaxation of the corona measures.
“In Houston, Texas, you saw conditions like in New York about two months ago,” said correspondent Björn Soenens.
“There are not enough hospital beds, and patients have to be transferred to children’s wards because there are not enough beds and intensive care beds. So great alarm in Texas.”
