The number of new coronavirus infections detected in Germany in the past 24 hours has risen sharply compared to the previous day.
In addition, there is again a record number of corona deaths in 24 hours. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM, stated 24,740 new infections in the last 24 hours.
On Tuesday, 19,528 new cases were reported by the RKI. This put an end to a three-day decline in figures. Decreases during and after the weekend and increases as the week signs of progress are more or less a consistent pattern in Germany.
A total of 1,554,920 infections have now been detected in the eastern neighbours.
In the past 24 hours, a further 962 people died in the Federal Republic of Covid-19. That is a new record number. The grim record came to 952 last Wednesday. In total, at least 27,969 people have now died as a result of a corona infection.
A hard lockdown has been in upshot in Germany since last Wednesday. Among other things, many businesses and schools are to remain closed until January, Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed with state governments.
