Sanna Marin (34) become the Youngest Prime Minister of Finland and the World

Finland may have the youngest prime minister in the country’s history. It will be Sanna Marin, a 34-year-old woman and until now the Transport Minister.

She takes over from Antti Rinne, who had to resign earlier this week.

If Marin is officially appointed as prime minister later this week, she will also become the youngest prime minister in the world.

With 32 votes against 29, the Social Democratic Party’s top party SDP in Finland elected Sanna Marin as a successor to Antti Rinne, the retiring Prime Minister. Marin has so far been vice-chairman of the party and minister of Transport and Communications.

The SDP was the country’s largest party in the April elections and subsequently formed a coalition with the centre party and three smaller parties, with Rinne at the head. However, he had to resign on Tuesday because the centre party had lost faith in him.

The coalition was formally dissolved, but because the five coalition partners have already indicated that they still support the coalition agreement that they have concluded, that coalition can quickly be resumed with a new prime minister at the head.
