According to a study, the number of people infected with the coronavirus in China is probably four times higher than has been reported so far. That reports The Guardian.
Based on figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), researchers from Hong Kong have looked at the number of Chinese infections until February 20.
At that time, 55,000 people were officially infected. However, the definition of infection has been tightened up several times by China.
The researchers report that the number of infections is at least 232,000 if the new definition determines whether someone was infected.
In China, more than 83,000 cases have now been officially recorded.
Last week, the country reported that the number of infections in the city of Wuhan, where the outbreak started, is 50 percent higher than previously reported.
