Netflix Says Sorry for Controversial Movie Poster

Netflix has apologized for a controversial movie poster of the French film Cuties, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The streaming service did so after tens of thousands in a petition online called for the complete removal of the film from the offer.

The film is about an 11-year-old girl who turns against her family and joins a twerking dance troupe. Twerking is dancing with the hips back or shaking the buttocks, often in a low squatting position.

Promotional material from Netflix showed four young girls with shorts and bare bellies, something that many people couldn’t find. “Nausea, disturbing and sick” were some of the reactions to the movie poster.

“We are very sorry for the inappropriate promotional material we used for Cuties,” Netflix said in response to Twitter.

“It wasn’t okay, nor was it representative of this French film, which has won an award at the Sundance Film Festival. We have updated the images and description.”

However, according to many of the petition’s signatories, it’s not enough that Netflix has just adapted the poster of the film, which will premiere worldwide on September 9.

They call for the entire film to be removed from the platform, but the streaming service does not like that.
