Over 8800 new cases of the new coronavirus have been diagnosed in Russia in 24 hours. This brings the total to 441,108 infections.
The country of 145 million inhabitants has counted 5,384 deaths from the virus. That is relatively little.
More than 195,000 patients in Russia have now been cured. The virus from China made its appearance in Russia at the end of January by Chinese tourists in the Asian part of the country.
The authorities intervened quickly and managed to keep the virus reasonably under control there.
But in early March, the virus spread again mainly in Moscow. That was probably brought to the metropolis by travellers from Italy.
Approximately 6.5 million infections have been diagnosed worldwide.
Almost 6 percent of patients have succumbed to its effects; more than three million patients have now been cured.
