Massachusetts Becomes First Openly Lesbian US Governor

Maura Healey becomes the new governor of the northeastern state of Massachusetts.

The 51-year-old Democrat will become the first openly lesbian woman to be elected governor of the United States, according to The New York Times.

She may not be alone for long: In Oregon, Democrat Tina Kotek has a good chance of being elected governor during these midterms.

Maura Healey’s running mate Kim Driscoll becomes lieutenant governor of Massachusetts, making it the first US state to have two women in the highest office.
