Maker Shooting Game Fortnite is Also Complaining About Apple in Europe

The maker of the popular computer game Fortnite has now also moved its feud with Apple to Europe. Epic Games has filed an official complaint against the iPhone maker with the European Commission.

Since last year, Epic and Apple have been in a battle after Epic unilaterally decided to include its iPhone app’s payment system. Apple prohibits this in its terms of use and therefore removed Epic’s programs from the App Store.

The Fortnite maker accuses Apple of abusing its position of power by demanding that apps use Apple’s payment system and hand over 30 percent of all proceeds. Previously, Epic Games already filed complaints against Apple in the United States, Great Britain and Australia.

It’s not entirely clear why Epic envisioned it on Apple and to a lesser extent Google, the makers of the two largest mobile operating systems. On game consoles, the company pays up to 30 percent of its proceeds to the owner of the platform. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney stated last year that the situation is not comparable.

At the same time, Epic isn’t the only company to protest Apple’s actions. For example, Spotify has been running against the benefits that Apple’s music service Apple Music enjoys according to the Swedes for some time. Facebook believes that Apple is consciously trying to undermine the social network company’s earnings model with privacy measures.

The European Union is also already looking at Apple because of Apple Pay. Apple refuses to open the NFC chip in its mobile phone to other companies that want to provide payment services. According to Apple, this has to do with security.
