India has sent more soldiers to the disputed Himalayan border with China. In previous weeks there have been some minor incidents involving shooting around the border.
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind says the troops have been sent to the border to protect Indian interests. “We remain vigilant.”
At the beginning of this week and last week, small clashes took place, in which several soldiers were injured. Last year, twenty Indian soldiers and an unknown number of Chinese soldiers were killed in the fighting.
China and India fought another border war in 1962. China won that armed conflict. Peace in the border area did not return. The countries have many troops stationed there.
