Delivery Hero Invests Heavily in Flash Delivery Gorillas

Meal deliverer Delivery Hero invests hundreds of millions of dollars in the super-fast grocery delivery service Gorillas. With that money, the German start-up founded during the corona pandemic can further expand.

Gorillas, which also works with bicycle couriers, promises to deliver the desired groceries to customers within ten minutes of ordering. Since its inception in June last year, Gorillas has expanded to more than 55 cities, including Amsterdam, London, Paris, Madrid, New York, Milan and Munich. More than 11,000 people work for the company worldwide.

Delivery Hero is very enthusiastic about Gorillas and is eager to invest in this alternative to the traditional supermarket. A total of 235 million dollars has been allocated, which is about 202 million euros. This gives Delivery Hero an approximately 8 percent stake in Gorillas. “We have closely followed their growth over the past few months, and we are delighted to be part of their journey,” said Delivery Hero CEO Niklas Östberg.

Gorillas have raised a total of nearly $1 billion in a financing round. According to the company, this is the most significant financing for a privately held company in the European grocery delivery sector to date. Gorillas raised $290 million earlier this year. All this additional money will enable the company to strengthen its presence in existing markets while investing more in areas such as human resources, technology and marketing.
