Chinese Foreign Minister Visits Taliban Colleague in Kabul

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met his Afghan counterpart in Kabul’s Afghan capital. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul reported this on Thursday.

Wang is the most senior official from China to visit the country since the Taliban’s Sunni extremists took power in August.

The Taliban movement is not recognized outside the country as the rightful government of the country and is still a target of UN sanctions, among others. But China has long had contacts with the Taliban.

In addition, those in power in Kabul are grappling with economic problems and shortages due to the lack of international recognition.
